Thank you for considering guest speaking to increase career awareness for the students at MHS!
These exploratory experiences are open to all students at MHS and are geared towards exposing students to new career opportunities – careers they perhaps didn’t know existed or didn’t know enough about to see themselves successful in that career.
Partner with Marshfield High School
Students sign-up for these opportunities in Flex Time Manager.
How it works
- Visit the high school during our three 30-minute Flextime sessions.
- Speak to three different groups of students, typically 10–20 per session.
- Each session is 30 minutes, back-to-back.

Ways to engage students
- Hands-on activities showing needed industry skills (for example: banking, money-counting).
- Technology such as PowerPoint or Kahoot.
- Printed materials to hand out (brochures, business cards).
- Bring models, machines, tools, or equipment used in your industry.
- Photos showcasing your business or industry.
- Promotional giveaways.
- Invite a colleague or team member to co-present.

Thank you for taking time to speak with Marshfield High School students interested in learning more about your career. Your presentation will expose students to industry trends, career opportunities, skills needed for success, and more. We greatly appreciate your participation in our program and hope you will consider covering some of the following topics:
Industry Overview
- Provide an overview of your organization/department.
- What are some of the current developments in your industry today?
Your Career
- What is your title and what education/training was needed?
- What is a typical day like for you?
- What are your working conditions
- What do you like best about your job?
- What do you like least?
Career Path
- Can you briefly describe your career path and major factors leading you in this particular direction?
- Have you worked in a variety of sectors?
- Did you complete an internship or job shadow, and if so where?
- How did your internship/job shadow affect your career choice?
- Has your path been a clear one with established goals?
Academic Preparation
- What courses in high school prepared you for this career?
- What was your post-secondary path?
- Do you have plans to continue your education?
Professional Skills
- What are the top three skills you use on a daily or weekly basis (i.e. can be transferable, knowledge-based and/or innate)?
- Can you summarize the top skills you’ve developed and would recommend that current students focus on developing while they are in high school?
